KSBA News release, July 13, 2007
Statement by KSBA Executive Director Bill Scott in response to Barbara Erwin's decision to decline the education commissioner's job
KSBA appreciates the decision by Mrs. Erwin, one we are certain was made not only for personal reasons but more importantly in the best interests of Kentucky's public schools and its students.
Now KSBA encourages the Kentucky Board of Education to resume its search for a new commissioner of education without feeling the pressure to act quickly or without the fullest consideration of the needs, priorities and goals to continue the progress of Kentucky's public education system for our state and its children.
KSBA and many of the more than 800 local school board members and 174 superintendents across Kentucky provided recommendations on the local perspective of what we feel are the vital traits of our next commissioner and we encourage the state board to review these and the many other offerings of insight already submitted, as part of the new search process.
