Jefferson principals told to adapt to court ruling
Jefferson County Public Schools officials have told principals not to use race to decide whether they can accept new and transfer students this year -- even if it pushes their schools outside the district's racial guidelines, officials said yesterday.
Superintendent Sheldon Berman included the change as part of a 14-page proposal that sets the process and timeline for adopting a new student-assignment policy in time for the 2009-10 school year.
