Covington Diocese adapts to growth

Task force to plan changes as Boone County population soars

It's not just the roads and public schools in Boone County that are being overrun by the county's exponential growth - it's also the Catholic churches.

The booming population has led to crowded pews and classrooms at the county's parishes. Now the Diocese of Covington wants to figure out how to handle the growth.

"The diocese and the parishes in Boone County have been watching the situation develop for a number of years," diocese spokesman Tim Fitzgerald said. "The schools and parishes are large, perhaps reaching capacity in some cases."

After hearing from Boone County parishes, Bishop Roger Foys decided to put together a Boone County Task Force that will analyze population trends...
