Draud to Reimburse State for Car

Problem solved. Good. Time to move on.

Education Chief To Reimburse State For Car Upgrades

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Education Commissioner Jon Draud says he'll reimburse the state for the upgrades he ordered on a state vehicle.

Draud said he used bad judgment in having the state buy him a Chrysler 300 car with $13,000 in upgrades.

Draud spoke at the Kentucky Board of Education meeting Wednesday morning and addressed the controversial automobile purchase. Draud said he regrets any problems he caused the board, but stopped short of apologizing for his actions. Draud said he hopes to move past the vehicle purchase.

Draud ordered a 2008 Chrysler 300 with a base price of $18,101. Options including an engine upgrade, global positioning system and a handsfree telephone pushed the price to more than $30,000.

More on the story from C-J: Mark Hebert at WHAS, and from H-L a little hatchet job that tries hard to ignore the solution in favor of rehashing the problem.
