Program gives teens a peek at college life

Weeklong camp also teaches study skills for high school

While most students fresh out of eighth grade are enjoying summer vacation, more than 40 of them are back in classrooms, learning how to survive high school and prepare for college.

The students from Iroquois and Moore middle schools and Southern Leadership Academy are attending a weeklong summer camp put on by Louisville's Education Talent Search.

The focus of the camp, which began Sunday at Bellarmine University, includes working on skills they are likely to need in high school, including collaboration with others and helping in the community. They also will have an opportunity to get acquainted with college life.
For some, this is their first time away from home or on a college campus.
