This from WAVE TV:
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- An 8-year-old Knoxville boy is recovering after trying to hang himself in his bedroom closet.
Police Lt. Doug Stiles says the boy suffered severe neck injuries. He was being treated at University of Tennessee Medical Center on Friday morning.
Police say the boy had gotten in trouble Thursday at his elementary school. When he got home, his mother spanked him and sent him to his room.
Authorities say the boy then went into his bedroom closet and tied a belt around his neck and tried to hang himself. A few minutes later, the boy's sister found him unconscious in the closet.
A neighbor helped revive the boy until emergency personnel arrived. The boy's identity was not released.
