KENTUCKY BOARD OF EDUCATION TO MEET

The Kentucky Board of Education will meet Wednesday, July 11, in the State Board Room of the Capital Plaza Tower in Frankfort.

The meeting agenda contains all the necessary elements, which could lead to a resolution of issues that have plagued this board, and set Kentucky's school system back on the path of ethical, competent leadership. The recent announcement of KDE's new Deputy and Associate Commissioners has been a glimmer of hope. But whether the board takes control of a bad situation and sets a positive example for the children of Kentucky remains to be seen.

"Introductory remarks" by Dr. Barbara Erwin are scheduled in the morning, toward the beginning of the meeting.

An "evaluation discussion" with the new commissioner in closed session is scheduled after lunch, toward the end of the meeting.

In addition, the board’s Nominating Committee will discuss selection of the board's chair and vice-chair.

Is real oversight in our future? Let's hope so.

Don't get your hopes up - normal Erwin m.o. Set superintendent goals in private so there is no public oversight. Usually goals are underlings goals and not measurable. Then when board tries to hold her accountable it must be done in private and she weasels her way out or redefines the goal. Have fun.

Hopes UP?

No. Getting my hopes up would only lead to further disappointment.

In fairness, I think I have to allow for the POSSIBILITY that the board could act in a responsible manner. And, in fact, it's not too late to act on July 11th.

But that doesn't mean I really think they're going to do anything. There's not one shred of evidence to sugggest they will.

So this nag, is a loooong shot.

The chances that our board of education will deal with the issue, as a matter of ethics - rather than NOT dealing with it, as a matter of politics - are no better than 50 to 1.
