Jail unlikely after sex with teen

Jeni Dinkel pleads guilty to rape in plea agreement

VILLA HILLS - Jeni Lee Dinkel admitted Thursday to having sex with her son's then 15-year-old classmate but likely will serve no time behind bars for the crime.

Prosecutors recommended that the 51-year-old Villa Hills mother serve five years on probation in exchange for a guilty plea to one count of third-degree rape. Dinkel also will have to register as a sex offender for 20 years. She could have gotten up to five years in prison if found guilty of the charge at trial.

"If this case would go to trial, I don't think you would see a five-year sentence," Kenton Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders said. "In all likelihood, you would see a minimal sentence of one or two years - at the most."

Sanders acknowledged a "societal double standard" in cases involving an adult woman and teenage boy as one reason for allowing the plea agreement. He also cited the fact that Dinkel had no criminal past.
