8 a.m. ET in Louisville to move forward with the process of hiring a new commissioner of education.
Last month, Commissioner Terry Holliday announced that he is retiring
at the end of August. Holliday has served as commissioner of education
since 2009.
Director of the National Center for Innovation in Education and former
Kentucky Commissioner of Education Gene Wilhoit will facilitate a
discussion with
the board about the characteristics it is seeking in the next
commissioner of education. The public will have an opportunity to
provide input on the draft list of characteristics starting next week
and all input will be provided to the board for its consideration
in finalizing the list.
Also, the board is scheduled to interview and select a firm to lead the search for a new commissioner.
The date for Thursday’s meeting was set at the board’s April 1 meeting and is being held in Louisville for its proximity to a major airport.
