This from Charles Bertram at the Herald-Leader:
The cupola and weather vane were silhouetted against a colorful sunrise behind Morton Middle School, 1225 Tates Creek Rd. in Lexington Monday, January 30, 2012. The school was named after William "Lord" Morton, a wealthy merchant, who left one-tenth of his estate for the establishment of Lexington's first school in 1834 in downtown. The current school was built in 1938.

As a former Morton parent I must say that it does look like sunset over Morton! In more ways than one...
Having had several of my kids go to the school I must say it has lost some of "what it used to be." From the two roommates who run the front office as principal and I think academic coach, to the snippy assistant principal who turns a blind-eye to the school bullies, I remember when the school used to be a place I really liked. These days it takes an act of Congress to suspend a student there.
Now Morton is just like so many schools in Fayette County although I must say there is way too much emphasis on testing here.
Maybe one day things will get better there. I do hope soon.
Other than subbing at this school a couple of times over a decade ago, it saddens me that this beautiful picture only envokes a negative comment about who currently works there.
It never ceases to amaze me how many negative comments I read about FCPS on this blog. Glad I do not serve there both as an employee as well as one who woudl serve the people there.
Yes, I agree with the last reviewer.
Do Not:
1) Question the administation.
2) Question the amount of testing.
3) Question the approach to discipline.
Be positive-not negative--- about Fayette County Public Schools.
