Thou Shalt Not Cross-Dress

I once declined a request from the PTA to cross-dress as a promotional stunt for some school event. I refused because I didn't want to send any confusing messages to the kids, but mostly because I didn't want to embarrass myself. The last thing this world needs is me in pantyhose.

This principal apparently agreed only to get into trouble with the conservative branch of the political correctness police.

This from the Reedsburg Times Press:

REEDSBURG—An opposite gender dress-up day at an elementary school in Reedsburg raised the ire of a Wisconsin Christian radio group Friday morning, and the district was flooded with calls from outraged listeners.

Students in Pineview Elementary had been dressing in costume all week as part of Wacky Week, an annual tradition at the school. On Friday students had the option of attending school dressed as senior citizens or members of the opposite gender. After a local resident informed the Milwaukee-based Voice of Christian Youth (VCY) America Friday, the radio network interrupted its regular schedule at 10:30 a.m. for a special broadcast that aired on nine radio stations throughout Wisconsin decrying the dress-up day and accusing the school district of promoting alternative lifestyles.

"We believe it's the wrong message to send to elementary students," Jim Schneider, VCY America program director, said. "Our station is one that promotes traditional family values. It concerns us when a school district strikes at the heart and core of the Biblical values. To promote this to elementary school
students is a great error." ...

First off, wacky week is held at many high schools for homecoming, senior weeks, and other such events that usually involve "gender bender days". I have no idea why this would be misconstrued to encourage an alternative lifestyle, when in actuality it is just a fun dress up day for the kids. The alternative lifestyle that the Christian Radio station is trying to not promote is not a lifestyle that harms anyone and should not be discouraged or hidden just because of a person's age.
