Board Member Hubbard want Erwin to Withdraw

The Courier-Journal reports:

A state board of education member is calling for the leading candidate for Kentucky's top education job to withdraw her name because of growing concerns about her background.

Doug Hubbard of Bardstown said he made a mistake in agreeing to name Barbara Erwin as the leading choice for Kentucky's education commissioner.

"I think she ought to withdraw as a candidate. I feel that there is an issue of credibility," Hubbard said. "The last nine days have been one revelation after another revelation, and I think there is a perception that she cannot overcome."

...Despite Hubbard's concern, school board chairman Keith Travis said yesterday that he still thinks Erwin is the best person for the job.

"I haven't seen any evidence that changes my mind," Travis said. "Every person is entitled to his or her opinion. I don't think any less of him (Hubbard) for voicing his opinion. As far as I know, he is the only one who feels it was a mistake."

"...We are in the process of getting ready to ratify her contract," said Janna Vice, a board member from Richmond. "I appreciate the information being gathered, but I just think it would be inappropriate to talk about it right now."

And from the Herald-Leader.

Hubbard said he has sent an e-mail to superintendents in his district apologizing for his initial support for the controversial candidate.

"Our constituencies are the children of Kentucky," he told a reporter yesterday. "I don't think it's best for the children of Kentucky to have a commissioner who has serious questions about her credibility."

This from the Cincinnati Post.

Of course you know that Erwin already withdrew her candidacy, rather suddenly, from consideration as superintendent for the River Forest, IL school district (about a month ago). She announced the withdrawal of her candidacy right after some officials from the prospective school district visited her current district. Wonder why.

She also abruptly withdrew her name from consideration in the Coolidge, Arizona school district, noting that "now was not the time to return to Arizona."

Wonder why?
