Speed Stackers ! Who knew?
Ludlow Elementary School will send five of its 60 speed-stacking team members to West Carrollton, Ohio, to participate in a tournament Saturday.
The team, led by June Smith in the school's physical education department and Cathy Pedro in the family resource center, is in its second year of competition.
The sport is a "track meet for your hands at warp speed," according to www.speedstacks.com.
Participants race against the clock by stacking and unstacking 12 plastic cups in various sequences. "It's all about speed, eye-hand coordination and agility," Smith said.
Most participants are between the ages of 9 and 12. Saturday's event will have more than 200 students from four states competing. It's a sanctioned event, meaning some of the students could qualify for the world competition April 14 and 15 in Denver.
