Fayette County school board chairman John Price said Thursday that the board hopes to interview at least four candidates for interim superintendent on Nov. 20.
Price revealed those plans after the board finished a closed meeting that lasted slightly more than an hour. Price didn't identify the candidates.
The school board met at noon Thursday to accept Superintendent Tom Shelton's resignation and to discuss appointing an interim replacement.
The board went into the closed session to talk about specific candidates for the interim job. The temporary appointment would be for six months while the school district searches for a new superintendent.
Shelton announced his resignation Nov. 6 to become executive director of the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents. His last work day will be Dec. 12.
Before going into closed session, the board discussed priorities for the interim superintendent:
■ Redistricting, which is necessary because of the addition of two elementary schools and a high school.
■ Response to this year's state audit, which criticized the school district's financial management.
■ Staffing and budget.
■ Bridging the achievement gap for poor, disabled and minority students.

Lu Young should be the only one that this board should consider! She should have been picked to begin with but, the butt kissers decided not!
Please, please, please. Do not choose a superintent who makes teachers do home visits and promises customer service. Please do not choose Lu Young. Do not choose anyone who makes promises without holding parents accountable.
No more Stu silbermans and no more Tom Sheltons.
