"I just want to make sure that it's clear to people
that I want this district to operate
in a transparent and open fashion,
and deal with whatever issues we have."
-- Tom Shelton
The
Herald-Leader picked up the transportation suit story today. With at least two more suits waiting in the wings, I suppose they will continue to follow up. Good. That would give the public some of the institutional accountability we need.
(At this point, one supposes they are not going to publish Rosalind Hurley-Richards' recent appellate victory. Perhaps it's not news.)
H-L pretty much echoed the information in our transportation story, without the humorous little quiz.
This from H-L:
A former school bus driver has sued the Fayette County Board of Education, alleging she was sexually harassed while working for the school system. Superintendent Tom Shelton says he's considering an independent investigation into the case and other possible issues in the district's Transportation Department.
Shelton said Tuesday that he began hearing of concerns about working conditions in the transportation department soon after he was hired in June. He said he was considering a possible inquiry even before the lawsuit was filed.
Former bus driver Sherry King filed suit in Fayette Circuit Court on Sept. 9 against former superintendent Stu Silberman; transportation director John Kiser; transportation supervisors Deborah Goodlett, Deborah Durbin and Steven Lane; and members of the school board....

Liking the discussion board more each day! Yes, you were the first to break the news. Thank you for doing so. I really do believe Mr. Silberman attempted to keep this from the media. (I know someone who works at the paper) Ultimately, the Herald Leader realized it had to act appropriately or it would be viewed as the voice of the former superintendent.
I know that Brenda Dinkens Allen will serve the drivers well. It's a shame Mr. Silberman chose to get rid of her as legal counsel, but as many have said, he has not been the same "Stu" since his bicycling accident. In the beginning, he showed such promise.
Imagine working in a district where the superintendent's support for "kids" trumps the rights of bus drivers, paraprofessionals, and teachers.
FCPS is not the place you want to work if you feel the need to file a grievance.
I think there should be a house cleaning and hire someone outside the district to run the transportation dept.Too much family and frienda are in place as of right now, that includes Liberty Road and Miles Point.
