The Kentucky Board of Education will tackle several key items related to plans for statewide educational improvements during two days of meetings in Frankfort starting Wednesday.
Board members are to consider steps aimed at ensuring that course content is uniform across the state, review minimum requirements for high school graduation, streamline the state system's required program of studies, and consider the possibility of so-called "end of course assessments" for Kentucky high school students.
Kentucky Education Commissioner Terry Holliday says the wide-ranging session could help establish the direction of education during the next several years.
"It's mainly about setting the path for implementing Senate Bill 1," Holliday said.
SB1 is the reform measure that the Kentucky General Assembly passed last winter to establish a new statewide student testing program and provide more in-depth curriculum requirements in an effort to upgrade education statewide...
