Drop the bullhorn
It's not surprising that a state review of Jefferson County Public Schools finds a non-cooperative relationship between the district and the Jefferson County Teachers Association. The questions are, who's responsible for the bad blood and what can be done about it?
There's seldom a governmental standoff in which all fault lies on one side. And that's not the situation here. But the non-renewal of 18 teacher contracts for alleged disciplinary and performance problems -- which were necessary to protect kids' educational opportunities -- seems to have put JCTA on the path to extremism...

Why is Steve Neal on the KY Board of Education? It is a pure conflict of interest. Gov. Beshear blew it by granting Neal a position on the board for contribution paybacks. It seems to me that someone who is leading lawsuits against superintendents should not be allowed to be a board member that is responsible for setting policies that govern said superintendents. Can anyone from KSBA speak to this issue?
I don't know anything about the particulars you allege, but you've left out some KEA involvement that might concern some legislators, too...right?
In any case, we will learn more tomorrow morning when newly appointed board members come before the Joint Education Committee for confirmation. I think it's at 8 or 9 am.
Check out KET's website. They usually have live web coverage of such hearings.
