New Webster Co Principal Withdraws

Slaughters school principal withdraws from post

Less than one week after accepting the position as principal at Slaughters Elementary, Michael Bayless has “withdrawn from further consideration,”
according to a written Webster County School District statement.

The news release does not state the reason for the decision, but The J-E later learned that Bayless was involved in allegations of wrongdoing in the Fayette County School District, where he was employed as the associate principal at Crawford Middle School.

An article published by the Lexington-area Herald-Leader regarding the allegations apparently made its way onto a state education website Thursday or Friday, where Webster County officials learned of the incident.

Webster County School District Superintendent James Kemp said the Slaughters Elementary Site Based Decision Making Council that conducted interviews and “vetted” candidates found nothing to indicate any problems.

“They examined him and checked references,” Kemp said of the SBDM hiring committee. “There was no information forthcoming.” ...

Webster school board hears from Providence SBDM

Webster County's JournalEnterprise.com reports that before a large crowd of Providence parents, teachers, and other interested citizens the Providence Site-Based Council members presented the Webster County Board of Education documentation confirming the legitimacy of the Providence Site-Based Decision-Making Council.

The presentation of the letter stemmed from concern that the Providence SBDM might be declared an invalid public body.

“We were told our site-based (council) is illegal,” Providence Special Education Instructor Tonia Morrow told the Webster County school board. “That is very disheartening.
