Cost - Benefit

Several KSN&C readers, and a bunch of folks on the EKU campus, have been asking a particular question - in one version or another. Essentially: What did the Board of Regents pay for the (supply your own adjective here) search firm?

Thanks to EKU Media guy Marc Whitt and Lora Snider in Purchasing I can report that the contract is "not to exceed" $88,250.00 but is likely to be billed for a tad less.

The contract base rate includes a flat fee of $67,000.00.

Travel reimbursement for candidates and consultants is estimated at $12,000.00.

Other expenses include reimbursement for "actual candidate finalist background check and degree verification" (at $350.00 per person) and the cost of advertising, all estimated at $9,250.00.

Was this money well-spent?  You decide.

One paragraph from my notes (emailed to my department on 11/13/2012) of the meeting with Appleberry and the search firm:

For these candidates they will conduct a full background check, including criminal, financial, driving, and verification of their degrees. They’ll also google them, call their references, and make them sign a statement that they’ve disclosed "anything that might embarrass us." Every applicant will be seen by the search and screening committee (the one with only one faculty member) and all feedback from faculty will also go to this committee.

Jerry: I'm glad you captured this. I remembered it but hadn't taken notes. Good for you.

Worth it for two candidates, but we should get a refund for Lassen.
