The First Lady of Literacy

As part of the third annual Kentucky Literacy Celebration First Lady Jane Beshear stopped by the Noel Studio in the EKU library last week to share stories with second graders from Model Lab School. In cooperation with the Collaborative Literacy Center, Beshear has been traveling the state this week spreading the gospel of good readin'. The students were prepped for today's visit by preservice teachers at Eastern. The Teacher Ed candidates questioned Beshear about the rate of improvement in state-wide literacy. Beshear's last stop was the library's Grand Reading Room where several projects under the theme "Bridges to Literacy" were showcased.

Doesn't seem like a very stratgetic use of EKU space in light of its core mission. Someone should have told KY first lady that EKU isn't in the K-12 education business and that she needed to leave.
