Bryan Station Middle School Principal, 2 Teachers, Out Over Student-related Incident

Fayette County Schools Superintendent Tom Shelton is investigating allegations made against Bryan Station Middle School Principal Fred Snodgrass and two teachers, according to WTVQ.

The allegations are reportedly of bullying-type "behavior toward a student."

Snodgrass and the teachers three were put on paid leave, but were not suspended.

There is a good deal more to this story than is being reported, of course, and, as is often times the case: race is an issue. It is doubtful that the Herald Leader will print anything about this latest issue.

Snodgrass, who is African American and was appointed by Stu Silberman in 2010, is alleged to have been lax on discipline with children whose parents attend his church. From what we have learned the students who are claiming to be bullied are white.

As Silberman said put about Snodgrass, "Snodgrass will move Bryan Station Middle forward."

Even though these aligations may be false, I feel this is a topic that should be adressed more often. I have seen teachers bully students during my school years. Though none that I saw was very severe, I feel that "Teacher/Student Bullying" is a problem that many school systems do not realize is happening...

Richard,

We are teachers at Bryan Station. When is "paid leave" used for discipline? What is the difference in "suspension?"

I agree with the comment "when is paid leave a punishment". That just seems like a nice, forced vacation to me. As far as the rest of the story, it seems that if the comment concerning the church and being lax on the students who went there, it does not seem professional at all to overlook freedom of religion. It seems as though Snodgrass was trying to influence the other students to begin attending his church.

there are many schools in fayette county who have white students bullied by black students and nothing is ever done to correct the problem. it seems to be even a bigger problem when the school has black administrators.i know of several incidents that the parent removed their child from the school to alleviate the problem because the administrators would not or could not stop the bullying.

I haven't seen anything on why the principal at garden springs was removed from her position. Does anyone know why?

Sorry to have been so slow responding of late. End of semester, holidays, etc...

I suppose the benefit of putting someone on leave, without suspension, is to give district administration time to look into the situation without making a prior judgment about guilt or innocence in the absence of conclusive facts.

Issues of race always seem to enter discussions at Bryan Station one way or another. It's a shame. Perhaps it's also a reflection of historical wounds that remain unhealed.

And, then, like so many personnel issues in Fayette County Public Schools, the subject was dropped.

Has anything been done? I have a friend who just had to pull there child from the school for being bullied and was even grabbed by the student .nothing has been done about that
The student tried to tell mr snodgrass and he would not listen and then told the parent that the student did not try to talk to him Lucky for the parent the student was there and spoke up and said they did try to talk to him
Seems like he does not want to look out for students well being in his school some of this activity has been captured on camera and he turns his back on it when one of his male studen athletes is involved there should be an investigation in to this problem at Bryan station middle

I have a niece (white) who has been sexually attacked by one of the male students (black) last year here at this school and nothing was done. Now this year she is being verbally and physically abused from bulling from the same student. This needs to stop but the principle or anyone is attempting to do anthing. When will this be taken care of? What is the next step?????

Mr. Snodgrass is a very nice and professional teacher. Unsure where the confusion may have came from. He is not the type to throw religion on anyone especially not at his job he surely knows very well how to separate the two.

I feel this has nothing to do with race. My son has been bullied by teachers, coaches and students and nothing was done and is ever done. By the way, my son is an african american at bryan station. To many times this "race card" is thrown up as a easy way out. It is an individual thing.

From what I hear a group of white students were being the bullies. Calling black children names that I haven't heard in a long time and I refuse to repeat! Bottom line is kids are kids. We as parents need to teach them how to act so that when there at school in the public eye they know how to conduct themselves, white or black!
