Idaho Mayor Apologizes After Flak from
Children's 'Assassinate Obama' Chant
Mayor Says Comments Don't Reflect Community Values;
Superintendent Blames Media
The mayor of an eastern Idaho town where second- and third-grade students on a school bus chanted "assassinate Obama!" after the Nov. 4 election has publicly apologized, saying there's no excuse for such behavior.
Rexburg Mayor Shawn Larsen wrote in a guest editorial sent Tuesday to local newspapers that he was saddened by the notoriety his community had received over the incident, both across the United States and abroad.
Larsen told The Associated Press that a formal response to the incident in his city was sorely needed.
"When people don't stand up and say, 'That's not appropriate, that's wrong, and those are hateful remarks,' it's almost like they are saying that it's an OK thing to do. And it's not," he said. "The mayor doesn't have any authority over the school system, but I do think it reflects upon the community." ...

This is what I was afraid of!!!!!! I am so exstatic that there is a black president but there are thoes who are stuck in the past. What makes me mad is that the mayor appoligized but it does not say anything about the mayor workign with the students to make them understand what is happening and how everyone should be equil. It also makes me discusted that its not the students who are appoligizing. I feel that the mayor is being a good example but I feel the students should be punished. They should all learn about what happened, have some speakers and learn then they should be required to write a letter to Obama appoligizing. We cant change everyones oppinion but peopel are like animals they usualy flock togeather. If most peopel are accepting then more will be and I feel this would be less of an issue.
