Nearly 40 percent of first-year students in Kentucky's largest state- financed college scholarship program have failed to qualify to keep the grant for a second year. A 2.5 grade-point average is required, which is halfway between a "B" and a "C."
This statistic about the Kentucky Education Excellence Scholarship, which goes to 63,500 students mostly on the basis of strong high school grades, was a key finding in a new report on the state's high school class of 2004 during its first two years of college.
