Alleged Shooter McGuire Surrenders in Missouri

The man wanted for the fatal shooting of a co-worker at a Lexington middle school Tuesday morning turned himself in to police in Missouri Wednesday afternoon.

Brian Allen McGuire, 27, (right) of Lexington, is suspected of killing Jose Daniel Donato, 38, (below) a fellow custodian at Leestown Middle School. The shooting happened at around 8 a.m. Tuesday inside the school, located on Leestown Road near New Circle Road. Police said there were no students in the school at the time of the shooting.

Lexington Police say McGuire called local police from a pay phone in Grain Valley, Missouri, which is near Kansas City. He was then arrested at about 2:15 p.m. EST. He is currently being held in the Jackson County, Missouri Detention Center. There is also no word on when McGuire will be returned to Lexington.

School officials and police confirmed that the school system had recently become aware of tension reported between McGuire and Donato prior to the shooting incident.

McGuire has worked for Fayette County schools since 2004, and Donato had been with the school system since February 2008.

Custodian slain; Two men had a recent conflict

José Daniel Donato left his home in Nicholasville about 6 a.m. Tuesday to go to Leestown Middle School in Lexington, where he worked as a custodian. His wife, Carrie Donato, said that the trouble he might have had with a guy at work wasn't something he discussed with her.

Two hours later, Donato, 38, was dead in the school. And Lexington police launched a search for fellow custodian Brian Allen McGuire, 27, who was probably driving a beige 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kentucky license plate 769-FVB.

McGuire, who faces a murder charge, is considered armed and dangerous. Lexington police have entered his name and the description of his car into a national law enforcement database.

Only a day earlier, on Monday afternoon, McGuire had reported to Fayette County schools' central office that Donato had displayed a knife to him last Friday and asked him if he was afraid, according to school officials.

School superintendent Stu Silberman said that McGuire, who had worked at the school for three years, told a human resources representative that he did not feel threatened by Donato...

One person is dead and a suspect is being sought after a shooting incident at Leestown Middle School in Lexington Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened at around 8 a.m. inside the school, located on Leestown Road near New Circle Road. Police at the scene say there were no students in the school at the time of the shooting.

Lexington Police Lt. Ron Compton says the suspected shooter is a school employee as well and police are searching for that person. He said police don't believe there is an immediate danger to others.

Authorities say that staff members were at the school to prepare for summer vacation.

As a result of the shooting, all Fayette County schools are closed Tuesday, and all school activities scheduled for Tuesday have been canceled.

A middle school shooting prompted Fayette County schools to close all buildings
Tuesday and ask parents to pick up children early from summer programs.

Lexington police are investigating the fatal shooting at Leestown Middle School and searching for a suspect who was not believed to be on school grounds, said Lexington police Lt. Ron Compton.

School district spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said all schools, some of which house parks department summer camps, are closing Tuesday. Parents should pick up their children as quickly as possible. Schools will remain open until all the children are picked up.

The Leestown Middle shooting occurred at 8:02 a.m., Compton said. The school is at 2010 Leestown Road.

Florida 7th-grader arrested for planning school shooting

DeLAND, Fla. - A DeLand Middle School seventh-grader was arrested late Friday and warrants were issued for two others who investigators say threatened to shoot as many students as possible and then kill themselves.

Although the 13-year-olds - two boys and a girl - did not succeed in finding a weapon to carry out their plans, "it wasn't for lack of trying," Volusia County sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said.

...Investigators learned late March 5 of what they called a "plot" after one of the teens posted on his MySpace page a picture of a tombstone, satanic references and admiration for the shooters in the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado, authorities said.

In instant messages with another teen who had contacted him through his MySpace page, the boy threatened to lock the cafeteria doors during one of the lunch periods and shoot everyone inside. The violence evidently was intended as retaliation for teasing he had endured.

"Everyone will pay for what they did to me," wrote the boy, who pretended online to be 19. "I will kill every person I see. ... The massacre will happen soon." ...

In recent weeks, Steve Kazmierczak, turned erratic after suspending an unidentified medication. He gathered the tools for a slaughter, and carried it out quickly, silently and without emotion.

But that person bore no resemblance to the 27-year-old man who Donald Grady, the chief of the college’s department of public safety, said “was revered by the faculty and staff and students alike” and was completely unknown to police.

“There were no red flags,” Mr. Grady said. Later, he told The Chicago Sun-Times, “It’s unlikely that anyone would ever have the ability to stop an incident like this from beginning.” ...
