Newport poor save $900,000 on taxes

Chase Law School student volunteers leveraged a government program to bring more than $900,000 to Newport residents.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program was open every Saturday from Jan. 27 to April 15 to assist low-income families in preparing tax returns and taking advantage of the earned income tax credit. More than 700 individual families - with $900,000 in refunds - were helped in Newport.

N Ky U's Chase Law School finishes second in National Moot Court

Two of Chase’s Moot Court teams competed successfully at the National Adoption and Child Welfare Law Moot Court Competition in Columbus, Ohio. Of the 23 teams taking part in the competition, Chase’s team of Ashley Baird, Megan Maxfield and Scott Van Nice took second place in the nation, behind Seton Hall University, and they tied Seton Hall for the Best Brief Award. Van Nice also won the award for Best Preliminary Round Oralist. The team was coached by Professor Lawrence Rosenthal.
