With the opening of the Carter Woodson Academy in Fayette County Schools, we are setting a dangerous precedent. Seems like Kentucky and 3 or 4 other states are about all that are left that don't have some sort of Charter or Voucher system in place in some form.<br /><br />Still don't like this idea that it should be limited to high poverty, high risk areas. Surely we wouldn't do the same thing when differentiating in our classrooms but instead serve all students. If we truly think this method would raise our lowest students, then why not raise our average studetns or even push our best and brightest even further?<br /><br />In the end, I think they will find that the charter school solution will at best only offer limited benefits as much of the challenge of serving at-risk children living in poverty has to do with what is occurring outside the school building, not within.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
